SafeNet project
SafeNet is an EU funded Horizon Europe project developing new ways to safeguard biodiversity and strengthen the resilience of Europe’s forests. Using advanced biodiversity monitoring, mathematical modelling and extensive species and ecosystem datasets, the project examines how genes, species and habitats may shift under future climate and land use scenarios. This helps identify priority areas for conservation, including ecological corridors and potential climate refuges. Through regional Living Labs and an EU level Policy Lab, SafeNet works directly with policymakers, forest managers, local communities and industry to cocreate practical, sustainable strategies that balance conservation with forest management and climate mitigation needs.
