Funded by the EU Horizon Europe Programme, Trees4Adapt is a โฌ4 million, 4-year project that aims to tackle the complex risks of climate change and biodiversity loss by supporting the design and implementation of tree-based solutions (nature-based solutions involving trees) across Europe. Through transdisciplinary research, modelling, and stakeholder engagement, the project will provide decision-makers with the knowledge and tools needed to build climate resilience, restore biodiversity, and avoid maladaptation.

Project Activities
Trees4Adapt brings together field research and advanced modelling to build an understanding of the interactions of climate change and biodiversity loss in different European landscapes. In the field, the project combines data from the long-term research platforms TreeDivNet and FunDivEurope (WP1) with real-world case studies in Finland, Germany, and Portugal, exploring how tree-based solutions perform under local ecological and socio-economic conditions (WP2). The project’s novel models will assess the economic viability of tree-based approaches (WP3) and produce EU-wide maps to indicate where tree-based solutions can deliver the greatest benefits (WP4). These combined activities provide the evidence, tools, and guidance needed to support more climate-resilient and biodiversity-friendly land management.
