Work Package 3
In Work Package 3 (WP3), Trees4Adapt analyses the economic dimensions of tree-based solutions, helping land managers and policymakers understand the financial implications, trade-offs, and long-term benefits associated with different land management strategies. WP3 develops bioeconomic models that integrate ecological data, climate risks, growth dynamics, and economic parameters to simulate how forests and agricultural systems perform under management involving tree-based solutions and alternative practices.
These models evaluate costs and benefits such as timber and crop production, carbon storage, ecosystem services, and biodiversity outcomes. They also incorporate future climate scenarios to assess how changing temperatures, drought events, pests, and other risks may affect the viability and performance of different strategies. This enables WP3 to identify economically and ecologically robust solutions.
WP3 also examines the policy landscape, exploring incentives, barriers, and governance mechanisms that influence the uptake of tree-based solutions.
The insights and model outputs produced in this work package guide decision-makers in prioritising investments, designing supportive policies, and ensuring that adaptation strategies are both cost-effective and socially equitable.
