Trees4Adapt’s activities integrate field research, case study insights, and advanced modelling, along with co-creation and communication activities to improve understanding of climate–biodiversity interactions and to inform how tree-based solutions can be designed, tested, and applied for adaptation across Europe. The project is organised into six complementary and interconnected areas of work, known as Work Packages (WPs), which structure the research and activities around specific themes and goals.
Trees4Adapt generates new ecological and microclimate data from long-established research platforms, covering multiple forest types and climatic regions (WP1). It also undertakes socio-ecological research through three case studies in Finland, Germany, and Portugal to examine how different tree-based approaches perform under local environmental and economic conditions (WP2). These datasets feed into advanced bioeconomic models that assess the costs, benefits, and trade-offs of different tree-based solutions, relative to other land management options (WP3), as well as pan-European modelling that maps future climate risks, biodiversity responses, hydrological change, and forest adaptation pathways (WP4). Alongside this, Trees4Adapt engages with stakeholders and carries out communication, dissemination, and outreach to ensure that its tools, maps, guidance, and findings can be used in real-world decision-making (WP5). The project is supported by dedicated coordination, governance, and data management activities that keep the consortium aligned and ensure high-quality, timely delivery of results (WP6).
